At this MPI report release, the panelists present their research, Newcomers to the Aloha State: Challenges and Prospects for Mexicans in Hawai`i, about the little-known yet growing Mexican community in Hawai`i. Drawing on a qualitative survey, in-depth interviews, and analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data, MPI and University of Hawai`i researchers paint a picture of a population of Mexican-origin residents (foreign born and U.S. born of Mexican ancestry) that in many ways has different outcomes than both their Mexican-origin counterparts on the U.S. continent and the overall state population across a range of socioeconomic metrics.
