Julie Spielberger

Julie Spielberger is a Research Fellow at Chapin Hall with a background in child development and early childhood education, and particular interest in emergent literacy, school readiness, the role of play in children’s learning and development, and improving program quality and professional development.

In addition to the Palm Beach County family study, she currently leads several research projects and evaluations of system-building initiatives designed to improve the coordination and quality of a range of early childhood services, including home visitation, early care and education, and health and mental health.

This report draws on a six-year longitudinal study of Palm Beach County, FL, examining parenting, child care enrollment, and other factors that encourage early school success. The authors find kindergarten-age children of Black immigrants have significantly higher odds of being ready for school than children of Latina immigrant or Black U.S.-born mothers.
