Eric L. Olson

Eric L. Olson is Associate Director of the Mexico Institute at the Woodrow Wilson Center. In this position he oversees the Institute’s work on U.S.-Mexico security cooperation and research on organized crime and drug trafficking between the United States, Mexico, and Central America. He also coordinates the Dialogos con México speakers’ forum, and the Institute’s congressional outreach and education efforts. In 2011 and 2012 he oversaw the Institute’s work on Mexico’s 2012 presidential election and development of an online resource guide with information about that process.

The U.S. government has increased its attention to public security issues in Mexico and Central America since 2007. This report suggest the policy emphasis has begun to shift away from the earlier focus on combating drug trafficking and transnational crime toward addressing the citizen security crisis.
